One Month Old

Rhys is one month old tomorrow!!!

We are so smitten and can't believe that the time is going so fast! We were so sad to say goodbye to Grandma Oswald on Saturday but we are excited to meet Grandma Debbie later on this week!

On Wednesday we were talking while Rhys was taking a nap and all of the sudden he started screaming! We jumped up and ran over there to see what was wrong. We saw that he had a fist full of his hair and was pulling it! The more he pulled, the louder he screamed! It was actually pretty hard to get him to let go!

Rhys has started tracking things with his eyes, pushing himself up with his arms, and still loves bath time. He has started getting interested in some of his toys, particularly his turtle toy and Sophie the Giraffe.

Three Weeks and LOTS of Pictures!

Quick update!

Rhys has been loving visiting with Aunt Shonee and Grandma Oswald! He is a champion burper and very nice guy. He always lets us know politely when something is up by giving a little squawk before he looses his cool. He has gotten pretty good at sleeping at night! He only gets up once or twice and goes right back to sleep. He loves bath time and enjoys hanging out in the warm water. He has been on several outings; walking around the park a few times, going to the butterfly exhibit at the Natural Science Museum, Target, HEB, 100% Taquitos, Priesthood session and China Town! He has fared better than Mom has, because she came down with a sore throat and fever and has had to spend an agonizing three days so far refraining from kissing is cute face. 

Lewis has taken to fatherhood like a fish to water. He is so amazing and sweet to both Rhys and I and loves to spend time cuddling with his little buddy! He doesn't shy away from night time feedings, blow out diapers and subsequent bath times and Rhys loves it when he sings Wonderwall by Oasis and plays him Chamillionaire songs on his phone. 

I am just enjoying my maternity leave and all the time I get to spend with my little guy! I am trying to take it easy after going on an impromptu 6 mile run/walk and getting sick immediately after. We all loved listening to conference this weekend and are so grateful for the wonderful blessing it is to get to hear inspired words from prophets and apostles. Rhys brings such a special spirit to our home and it has been so neat to feel the Holy Ghost's peace amplified since he has gotten here.

Rhys' Birth Story

It’s been a whirlwind these past 13 days since Rhys has entered our family! After waiting what seemed like forever (everybody assumed that he would come early) I finally started having intense contractions three days after his due date. It was a Thursday night and around 10:30 we started getting ready for bed. Just as we were laying down I felt an intense pain and figured that it was a contractions, but since I had been having false labor for weeks at that point I didn’t want to get my hopes up! I had Lewis start the contraction timer and 20 minutes went by. Another one came, and then 5 minutes later another one came. A few minutes later when I decided it was time to go to the hospital the contractions were 3-4 minutes apart. We were driving down Almeda dodging potholes and flooding with rain pounding on the windshield and lightning flashing all around us! By the time I got checked in contractions were 2-3 minutes apart, lasting 2-3 minutes and I was dilated to an 8. My nurse was so nice to me and they quickly got the anesthesiologist in to do the epidural. I was in so much pain, and I can’t even imagine what Lewis was experiencing! The team worked great and within minutes the epidural was in place and I was able to start relaxing. They told me that they could have broken my water and I could have had him right then, but my doctor was in a C-Section delivering twins so they were going to wait for it to break naturally.

Around 4am my water broke, and my doctor came in to see where I was at. I was dilated to a 10 and she said, “Ok lets to a couple practice pushes!” I couldn’t tell if anything was happening, so three pushes later I asked if I was doing good. The doctor said, “Yes, he is here!” I didn’t believe her and looked at Lewis. He said, “I see him! He’s here!” All of the sudden they pulled him up and laid him on my belly. He had such a beautiful cry!

The rest of the hospital stay was a blur! We had some hard times, but mostly it was such an amazing time that we got to spend enjoying our new family.

Catch up... May 2015-Present

Talk about playing catch up! Quick version, I graduated with my master's degree from the Graduate College of Social Work and University of Houston in May 2015. I passed my licensing exam and became an LMSW. Days later, we flew to Europe and experienced St. Petersburg Russia, Vilnius Lithuania, Alesund/Trandal Norway, a few hours in Paris and a few awesome days with Spencer, Jenny and family in Germany! We came back and the week before the 4th of July we found out we were pregnant!!! We drove up to Durango, Colorado to spend some time with Aleah and Shay and got to tell them then that we were pregnant, which was cool because Aleah and Jenny were both pregnant as well! About two months later we flew out to Utah to see Justin, who had just got home from his mission to Peru. We had a fun time and spent a few days at Bear Lake.

I got hired as an Outreach Specialist/Case Worker for a non-profit called the Behavioral Health Alliance of Texas. Lewis continues to tear it up with his company Meshify. We visited Utah again for both Thanksgiving and Christmas and had a baby shower where everybody came to show how much they love and support us! We decided that our baby would be named Rhys Dwayne Wight. Lewis and I both love the name Rhys and we decided on Dwayne for his middle name to honor his Grandpa Wight.

January went fast, but February has been the longest month of this year ironically!

Because of my immaculate planning skills, we were ready for Rhys to arrive weeks ago. Since then, he has kept us on our toes with about two weeks of pre-labor! Lewis was really hoping for a Leap Day baby but that ship has sailed. Lewis has been so amazing and sweet to me! He is always taking care of me; helping me up and making me food. He is also my emotional rock when my mood swings start to take over! The other day I was so tired and sore and impatient and he drew me a relaxing bath and then gave me a back massage. He has continued to do everything in his power to make me more comfortable and I can tell he is so excited to be a dad!

Now it is just a waiting game! We can't wait for our little Rhysee puff to get here!

Mo-Town

The last week has been a much needed catch up for the Wight family! With me back from Utah and not in classes yet I have been running around crossing things off my to-do list that have been on there for forever! Cydnee flew down to Houston after a work thing in Dallas and we got to hang out for a while :) We ate at Rudy's, explored the Houston zoo and Museum of Natural Science, went to the Chocolate Bar and 100% Taquitos and watched a Brazilian parade at Discovery Green!

On Sunday Lewis and I took a walk around the golf course. Because of a concert going on, traffic was almost at a stand still as we went to cross the street to the park. As we were crossing (at a clearly marked crosswalk) a lady kept inching forward towards us and because we kept crossing that seemed to make her angry (even though at most she could have moved forward a few yards before having to stop again). Anyway some guy leans out his window and yells us to get out of the street! And that was the clean version! The worst part is, this is the second time a similar thing has happened in the same area. I have never seen a more pedestrian Unfriendly place than Houston! We ended our walk at the Miller Amphitheater where they were doing a Mo-town concert. I kid you not, there were so many people you COULD NOT see the hill! We tried to squeeze our way up the sidewalk but quickly realized it was fruitless and turned around.
